Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Daniel Hudson struck out better than 10 batters per 9 innings in 93.1 innings with the White Sox AAA affiliate Charlotte last year. In just about the same sample size he was able to strikeout 8 batters per 9 innings with the White Sox and Diamondbacks. Hudson can clearly be a power pitcher.
The 0.84 WHIP he had after being traded to the Diamondbacks was absurd. White Sox GM Ken Williams should probably be looking over his shoulder for someone to come and tap him for going after Edwin Jackson when the guy he traded for Jackson was younger, cheaper, and fresher. When Williams does get tapped on the shoulder, he should probably make reference to the fact that Hudson will not sustain anything close to that number in the future. The BABIP against Hudson was .245. If he qualified with enough innings, that would be the second lowest BABIP (Trevor Cahill) in baseball last season. His strand rate would have been the highest in the league if he had enough innings.
Projection: While a guy can't repeat a 1.00 WHIP for a full year, it's even more unlikely that he'll jump to a WHIP of 1.40 too. If Hudson remains respectable in ERA and WHIP, and stays healthy he can help.
13 wins 3.94 ERA 1.28 WHIP and 170 K in 180 innings

Suite 101 Fantasy Baseball Says:
Hudson has an amazing 2010 one he arrived in Arizona (7-1 1.69 ERA .841 WHIP over 79.2 innings). His command and control is very good. It is very unlikely that Hudson repeats his gaudy numbers of 2010, so the question is how much will he regress in 2011. It is not likely that Hudson is an ace, at least in Arizona. The reason is that Hudson likes to work up in the strikeout zone, and that does not work well in Arizona's thin air. Hudson is a wild card in auction depending on how other owners see him. If Hudson comes in around $12-15 that is a solid price for him that could see some return.
