Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Rafael Soriano had the best ERA among closers with at least 30 saves last year that are returning in 2011 (Billy Wagner was actually the lowest at 1.43 - speaking of Wagner is he really done? Frank Wren is claiming Wagner and his agent "haven't gotten around to signing the retirement papers." Stay tuned).
Soriano's K/9 went down from 12.13 in 2009 to 8.23 last year. Sure the number is still above average, but it's a huge drop off. The reason that Soriano finished ranked higher last year than he has in every other season was based purely on the amount of saves he got and his lucky 81% strand rate and obscene .212 BABIP against.
Projection: The sweepstakes are wide open. I have not seen a rumor of Soriano to the White Sox anywhere, but I'm going to throw a dart at the wall and say he goes there.
4 wins 35 saves 2.55 ERA 1.12 WHIP 70 K in 72 innings
