Razzball Says:
Not a fan, homes. His name value far exceeds his real value. 25 homers is nice and all, but he gives you no speed at all and his runs and RBIs are obviously tied to his team. If you were to offer me Luke Scott seventeen rounds later, I’d say yes and get virtually the same player. 2011 Projections: 80/25/90/.295/3

Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Key Statistics: Whenever a player is listed higher (and in some cases much higher) here than anywhere else, I am very insecure. That's the case here, so read this before you list your grievances. Let’s compare Andre Ethier's breakout 2009 season to last year’s numbers
2009: 160 G, 92 R, 31 HR, 106 RBI, 6 SB, .272/.361/.508, .869 OPS
2010: 139 G, 71 R, 23 HR, 82 RBI, 2 SB, .292/.364/.493, .857 OPS
Like a lot of his Dodger teammates, Andre suffered a regression from his 2009 campaign, but it’s easy to see that a lot of this has to do with the 21 games he missed from the broken finger suffered in May. Obviously the time he missed would have brought up his numbers, but just as important in this evaluating his season is the games after he returned from the injury. Here's what Ethier said in the LA Times in late September of last year:
"It's been probably the last two, three weeks that I feel like I've gotten my full strength back, where I could say it's almost back to 100% strength-wise in my hand and I feel like I can grab and swing the bat the way I want."
He didn't even commit to the fact that he felt 100% as of September 25th! Now I know that all players play hurt to some degree, and we could all pick apart the timing, wording, and a slew of other things about what Ethier said. We've all listened to talk shows. My interpretation is that the guy had a broken finger, and didn't get enough time to recover. Also, before his hand injury, Ethier was hitting .392 with 11 jacks and 38 RBI – not to mention leading early MVP discussions. He was ranked 16th by Yahoo through May in all of fantasy baseball despite missing 25% of the season at that time to the finger injury. What's to say he wouldn't have been top five through May?
He actually had his second-best career batting average, and had nearly the same OPS as the year before last season despite all of these problems. Ok I've given my two cents. If you still aren't convinced, I give you permission to skip the rest and tell me why I'm wrong in the comments.
Skeptics Say: Ethier’s relative lack of production came from a deep second-half slide, probably mostly due to his broken finger. Those injuries are notoriously hard to come back from, especially in-season. Hopefully his lackluster second half was more a product of his injury rather than an indicator of any other dip in performance.
Also, Andre gets destroyed by left-handed pitching. He holds a .681 OPS lifetime against lefties, including a .629 OPS in his breakout 2009 season. That's not quite platoon-worthy numbers, but honestly, it's almost there.
Finally, Andre is going to be 29 this season. Though he had a tremendous start to 2010, many think that his 2009 season could be his ceiling. Ethier is a fine fantasy option, but he's a guy who has one 30 HR/100 RBI/.300 BA season in his whole career.
Projection: Okay maybe 30 is a little high, but the point is he's going to be on my draft board.
91 R, 31 HR, 102 RBI, 4 SB, .297 BA .888 OPS
