Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
John Danks is averaging better than 13 wins and 200 innings in each of the past three seasons. Not that those numbers are unchartered territory for a pitcher to reach in a given season (45 pitchers had at least 13 wins last year and 45 had at least 200 innings), but guarantees and higher degrees of certainty is a nice thing to have. Danks was ranked 126th last year and has not been any worse than 170 over the past three seasons according to Yahoo. He'll be 26 next season, so the numbers should continue to fall right in line with this trend.
The possibility of Danks greatly exceeding this ranking is not too high. He was 40th in strikeouts last season and his K/9 the past two seasons has fallen under 7. The best ERA he's had over the past three seasons was in 2008 when he had a 3.32, but 25 starting pitchers had a better ERA than that last season alone. He also might be throwing to a new catcher in Tyler Flowers who will have to learn more about the stuff of Danks and the other pitchers on staff.
Projection: Mentally, it's fair to say that Danks still hasn't arrived as a player. What he'll lack in wins and experience behind the plate this season he could make up for with his own experience.
