Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Despite virtually no change in his line drive, fly ball, and ground ball rates, Colby Rasmus' BABIP increased by 72 points. He was very unlucky in 2009 and very lucky in 2010 - when he played. Where Rasmus will improve this season is by playing more. He had just over 500 plate appearances last season as he only started 124 games.
Critics point out that Rasmus' average is likely to take a huge dip because of the aforementioned unsustainable .354 BABIP he had last year. They also point out that Colby does not produce elite numbers for any one category. It's very unlikely that he will hit 30 HR or steal 25 bases. Lastly, many people are concerned about the spike in Rasmus' strikeout rate last year. If he strikes out in more than 31% of his at bats again this year, he has no chance of being a top 20 outfielder.
Projection: Rasmus responded well after Pujols called him out at the end of last year. Look for him to continue to build on that momentum.
86 R 27 HR 93 RBI 15 SB .270 AVG

Razzball Says:
I enjoy a 25/15 outfielder like Rasmus just as much as the next man, woman or dwarf, but where’s the forty home run outfielders? Where’s the guys that can go 30/30? As mentioned before, I wish to implement a rule that allows one position each year to use steroids. The fans won’t know which position it is and then they can have fun guessing. This year, I’d let outfielders do the honors. Oh, and not only is Rasmus iffy for 25/15 but there’s a good chance La Russa poisons his oatmeal. 2011 Projections: 95/25/80/.265/15
