Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Bobby Abreu has stolen 20 or more bases for 12 straight seasons. He's hit at least 15 home runs for 13 straight seasons. Such a run of consistency requires good health and conditioning. Abreu has had both and has been ranked in the Yahoo Top 100 since 2006 the year that I first started tracking player rankings.
Abreu is going to be 37 years old this season. Eventually his run is going to end, and last season there were definite signs that he is not the player he once was. After seven straight seasons with 100 RBI, Abreu failed to drive in 80 last year. The Angels could not rely on him in the third spot in the batting order and he spent time as the leadoff hitter. Abreu's streak of eight straight seasons in which he walked 100 or more times ended in 2007, and while he still does exhibit a lot of patience he has not gotten back to that level. Last year was the second lowest walk rate of his career. His strikeout rate was as high as it has been in the last nine seasons. And his line drive rate fell 5.5 points below his career rate last season.
Projection: The .255 average Abreu finished with last season was yet another low point on his season. Based on the line drive rate and strikeout rate, it's fair to say he'll be closer to that total again next season than his .296 career average.
88 R 17 HR 85 RBI 21 SB .266 AVG .790 OPS

If you think this last tier and a half is boring as dog balls, the top 60 outfielders post is better. You have my guarantee! If not, I will refund your money!* (*Offer only good if you didn’t pay any money to me and I don’t have to refund you anything.) 2011 Projections: 80/15/70/.280/17
