Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
His ERA of 3.23 was very good and he was pretty consistent the whole season in keeping it low. He also had a good strikeout rate of 7.67 K/9. At 25, Gonzalez has one of the best curveballs in the game, and should continue to develop his other pitchers as he enters his second full season.
He allowed just fifteen home runs last season. In the minors, he would give up a home run on average once every 11.1 innings pitched. Up until last season, he had given up a home run once every 5.2 innings. Last year he gave up a home run once every 13.1 innings. Part of the reason for that is a decrease in his fly ball rate, but it is also because of a huge decrease in his HR:FB rate which is likely to trend back up this season.
171 strikeouts to 92 walks isn't pretty. In nine of Gonzalez's final eighteen starts, he allowed four or more walks.
Projection: As I've been typing this post, convincing myself of Gio's value in 2011 has gotten harder. I don't know if this will hold up, but he should still be solid across the board.
15 wins 3.67 ERA 1.29 WHIP 184 K in 210 innings

Suite 101 Fantasy Baseball Says:
His career numbers aren't pretty (22-20, 4.43 ERA and 1.47 WHIP), but Gonzalez improved his command in 2010, striking out nearly eight batters per nine innings with a 3.23 ERA. He was awesome in his last 19 starts (2.53 ERA) and was lights out in August, holding opposing batters to a .174 batting average and 0.93 WHIP in six starts. The lefty has some work to do in a couple of areas before he becomes totally reliable. He went 8-3 with a 2.56 ERA at his pitcher-friendly home park in 2010,but he needs to improve on the road where he went 7-6 with a 3.92 ERA. Plus, if Gonzalez can cut down on his walks, he'll cut down more batters with his nasty stuff, making him a potential staff ace and solid middle-of-the-rotation guy for your fantasy team.
