Fake Teams Says:
Will he ever hit 28 HRs again? Did he have a contract push in 2009? Mauer provides fantasy owners with excellent BA and RBIs, but he has middle infielder power. I mean James Loney hit more HRs than Mauer in 2010. Can he put up a 15-90-.320 season in 2011?

Fantasy Baseball Hot Stove Says:
Key Stats: In the last three seasons, Joe Mauer's worst batting average was .327. For a little perspective, Mauer's average last season was fourth best in all of baseball, so his "bad year" is better than just about anyone's good year.
Beyond the average though, Mauer had a disappointing 2010. It was easy to forecast a small let down after his MVP season in 2009, but to drop off by 19 home runs and 21 RBI was too extreme.
Skeptics Say: For all the hype that comes with being a three-time batting champion, a former MVP, and one of the best paying contracts in all of baseball, Mauer has had just one top 60 season by Yahoo standards in his career. Early in his career he demonstrated some ability to run, but he's stolen just six bases over the last three seasons. The 2009 season was brilliant in terms of home runs, but in three of the last four seasons Mauer hasn't even recorded double digits in that category. Not coincidentally, Mauer has stayed healthy in just one out of the past four seasons. He battled injuries at the end of last year, the start of 2009, and at the beginning and end of the 2007 season. As a result of missing all of this action, it is hard for his RBI and runs to account for much value. At the end of the day, it's easy to view Mauer as a one trick pony.
Projection: Bill James thinks Mauer will hit 15 home runs this season. I'm not as optimistic. Mauer hit just one at Target Field last year, and his power in 2009 came on the strength of two months in which he was en fuego.
